Single Gifts - Worktape

This is not a gift I thought I’d like
Teenage me would probably die
If she found out 30-year-old me
Still as single as single can be
But Paul was right, I have way more time
To serve the Kingdom while drinking red wine
Navigate every choice alone
Thank God for friends who lighten the load
I spent my life getting ready
To be the wife of somebody
And it’s not wrong to long to be married but now
I’ll need convincing to give up this good, good gift
My singleness
Grandma asks why I’m not married yet
I laugh and say, “Just lucky, I guess”
Remind myself when I’m feeling low
I’m better than unhappily yoked
Plus, how do you prepare to love and serve
If not by growing mature in the Lord?
Selfishness is certainly a threat
Roommates help, or children, or Lent
Be it known, I still get lonely some nights
A lifelong friend, well that sure could be nice
And I suppose I could give up one evening curled up
With a book on my couch per….month? Week? Sure
It’s a gift to be single, it’s a gift to be free
It’s a gift to come down where you ought to be
And when we find ourselves in the place just right
We’ll be in the valley of love and delight
