Little Bird
04:15
|
|||
Little bird, do you know
Do you know
Someone’s watching out for you?
Someone’s watching out for you
Little bird, when you sing your song
Your sweet, sweet song
You remind me
Someone’s watching out for me
So I lift my voice, lift my voice
And sing along
I clap my hands to the rhythm
Of the love song
Show me how to trust and wait
Patiently
For my daily bread
Oh, my daily bread
Open wide my eyes to see and receive
Jesus’ faithfulness
Oh his faithfulness
Jesus, give me kingdom eyes
Give me kingdom eyes
Only you satisfy
Oh, you satisfy

I wrote this song two weeks before I graduated from college, still without a job lined up and with many, many question marks about my life. I love planning and as a general rule hate surprises. Years later, I'm still learning to trust God in the presence of unknown...He is a very patient teacher.
Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they?

Artemis
03:20
|
|||
*Dedicated to all women in ministry*
All of your life you’ve been leading
Artemis taught you all
Now that you’ve met our Messiah
Your heart hears a better call
Taste and see
Don’t rush ahead my sister
It’s still too soon to lead
First you must learn the Gospel
There’s room at our Savior’s feet
Don’t be ashamed of your newness
We all begin as Eve
She didn’t know the whole story
How could she not be deceived?
And taste and see
You are not evil
Just overly eager
There’s room in the pulpit for you
But first there’s some learning to do

1 Timothy was addressed to Timothy while he was in Ephesus, where the main pagan deity was Artemis, a goddess with female-only priests. The main thrust of the passage is not to universally bar women from teaching, but to prohibit dictatorial leadership (as these particular women were accustomed to) and stress the importance of learning before leading.
When we come to Christ we must take care to not bring with us our former ways of doing things, but humbly submit to His new order.
I didn't grow up in denominations that ordain women, and I am deeply grateful for the many women (and men) who have patiently journeyed with me as I've questioned, examined, and changed my beliefs in this area.
1 Timothy 2:11-15
[Women] must be allowed to study undisturbed, in full submission to God. I’m not saying that women should teach men, or try to dictate to them; they should be left undisturbed. Adam was created first, you see, and then Eve; and Adam was not deceived, but the woman was deceived, and fell into trespass. She will, however, be kept safe through the process of childbirth, if she continues in faith, love and holiness with prudence.

Resurrect
02:51
|
|||
In my doubting, in my darkness
In my disbelief
I am frightened you won’t love me
With a faith incomplete
I hide, you find me
You beckon me
Wounded hands welcoming
Draw me close as you resurrect me
I am wounded by your children
Been the death of me
I am frightened you’ll be like them
Bruise and break me
I hide, you find me
You draw me
You draw me
Gently and freely into your love
__________________________
Doubt is not the opposite of faith, nor is death the end of the story. I am still Christian not because my faith is perfect (it isn't) or because I've never been wounded by the Church (God knows I have) but because over and over I am found and drawn by the God who raises the dead and puts death in His empty grave.
"When they saw him, they worshiped him, even though some of them doubted."
Matthew 22:18

You Find Us All
03:13
|
|||
Pastor told me, "Be a good little lamb
Stay in line
With the ninety-nine
Don't distract our Savior from the lost
Once you're saved
You must behave"
But isn't this the very Gospel
You are greater than our fall
We are wandering, all one hundred
And you find us all
You find us all
Seventy times seven, still you seek
Every time
Till you find
Wilderness will not withhold your joy
Every day
You celebrate
You do not grow tired
You are not fed up
You delight in us
You have time enough
________________________
Growing up as a "good kid" and missionary kid, I was explicitly and implicitly told to be good so as not to distract from important kingdom work (converting non-Christians and caring for those with actual needs).
If we truly believe in a God of unlimited love and unlimited power, unbounded by time, and that there is no human who does not need saving, the parable of the lost sheep becomes an invitation to recognize that we are every one of us the lost one, and we are all found and being found by the persistent shepherd God.
Luke 15:1-7 and Matthew 18:10-14
